Dust Jackets
What is a Dust Jacket?
Dust jackets are a removable folded sheet of paper that fits around your book's cover, protecting the cover from damage.
Dust jackets have five panels (back flap, back panel, spine, front panel, front flap), providing a canvas for creative and eye-catching design. Jackets sometimes include marketing copy or other information related to the book itself.
Dust jackets are printed in full color and laminated with your choice of gloss, semi matte, or soft touch matte laminate.
They can be added to both hardcover and softcover books.
Foil stamping is not available for dust jackets
The standard flap width for our dust jackets is 4". Though dust jackets typically extend the full height of your book, it is possible to have a partial jacket that is shorter than the book. These can be placed to interact with cover elements and heighten the design of the book cover.
What are the File Requirements for a Dust Jacket?
To produce your dust jacket, we need a print-ready PDF formatted to the correct size. You can get accurate dimensions based on your book specifications using our cover calculator.
We require 0.25" of bleed area for dust jackets. Read more about our file requirements and PDF export settings.
If your dust jacket design has a defined seam where your cover panels meet the flaps, we suggest you align the seam slightly inside the flap area.
What materials are used for Dust Jackets?
For our dust jackets, we typically use a bright white, smooth, relatively thick uncoated paper stock. The paper is printed on one side and then laminated with your choice of gloss, semi-matte, or soft touch matte.
