Laminates

Laminate options

We offer gloss, semi-matte, and soft-touch matte laminate for our printed softcovers, printed wrap hardcovers, dust jackets and inset images.

Gloss laminate is resistant to smudging and will add a brilliant sheen to your cover while also preserving dark colors and rich blacks.

Semi-matte laminate provides a similar protective quality as gloss, but without the high shine. This laminate may dull the appearance of blacks in your artwork or text.

Soft-touch matte laminate provides dirt protection as well as a soft, smooth feel in the hands. If your cover artwork includes blues or greens, this laminate may deepen these colors. Black areas will be muted. If your design has large areas with black or dark coverage, fingerprints will show more readily.

What is the best laminate for my book?

We offer gloss, semi-matte, and soft touch matte laminate.

Here are a few guidelines to help you decide which is best for your project.

Gloss laminate is resistant to smudging and will add a brilliant sheen to your cover while also preserving dark colors and rich blacks.

Semi-matte laminate provides a similar protective quality as gloss, but without the high shine.

  • This laminate may dull the appearance of blacks in your artwork or text.
  • This laminate is the most neutral in appearance, so if you are looking for a laminate that does not draw attention to itself, this is a good choice

Soft touch matte laminate provides dirt protection as well as a soft, smooth feel in the hands.

  • If your cover artwork or text includes blues or greens, soft touch matte may cause a color shift.
  • Blacks may have a dull appearance as well.
  • Cover designs that have large areas of black or other dark colors will show fingerprints more readily than with other laminates.

Can I Foil stamp on laminate?

Any of our laminated cover types – printed softcovers, printed wrap hardcovers, saddle stitch booklets – can be foil stamped.

NOTE: We cannot foil stamp dust jackets.
