Am I able to print on hardcovers?
Printed cover designs are possible on both printed wrap hardcovers and printed linen wrap hardcovers.
For printed wrap hardcovers, your cover art can be anything you wish, including full-color and full-bleed designs. Your art is printed onto white paper stock, then laminated with your choice of gloss, semi matte or soft touch matte laminate. The printed and laminated sheet is then wrapped and glued around the cover boards.
Printed linen wrap hardcovers are quite similar, except the design is printed onto a coated book cloth. The print is not laminated or protected, and will show wear at the edges and spine creases with regular use. For this reason, we do not recommend full-bleed designs for printed linen covers.
What types of hardcovers do you offer?
We make three types of hardcover books: linen wrap, printed wrap and printed linen wrap.
Linen wrap hardcover
This style of cover features book cloth wrapped around book cover boards, for a classic and high-end look. Covers are typically decorated with foil stamped text or art, as well as inset images. We carry over 25 colors of coated and uncoated book cloth. Custom colors and materials may be available, contact us with what you have in mind.
Printed wrap hardcover
Printed wrap hardcovers are the most common style of hardcover. They feature a full-color printed design that gets wrapped around book cover boards, and can be finished in a gloss, semi-matte, or soft touch matte laminate. Foil stamping is also an option for this type of cover.
Printed linen wrap hardcover
This hardcover construction is a hybrid of the other two types. A design can be printed directly onto coated linen and wrapped around book cover board. Foil stamps and inset images are available options for printed linen wrap hardcovers. Note that the print will show wear with regular handing, mainly at the edges and spine creases. For this reason, we don't recommend a full-bleed design for printed linen wrap hardcovers.
How much do hardcovers cost?
Hardcover book pricing is based on a number of factors, including trim size, page count, order quantity and whether you select finishing options such as foil stamping, inset images, custom printed endpapers, and more. Visit our pricing calculator to get accurate costs for your project.
Hardcover size limitations
Our books are truly custom made to your specifications, and we can accommodate page sizes within the following dimensions:
Linen wrap hardcover books can have a page size anywhere between 4" wide x 4" high to 14" wide x 12" high (in .25" increments).
Printed wrap and printed linen wrap hardcover books are available in any page size between 4" wide x 4" high to 13" wide x 11" high (in .25" increments).
Foil stamping hardcovers
Foil stamping is an option for all types of hardcovers we offer, including linen wrap, printed wrap and printed linen wrap. For linen wrap hardcovers, foil stamping is essentially the only way to include titles or other text on the cover.
Do you offer quarter binds?
We offer quarter binding for hardcover books as a custom option at additional cost. The material wrapping around the spine must extend 1.25" onto the front and back panels, and this distance can be increased if you wish.
You can choose to combine one type of linen for the cover panels and another linen for the spine area, or have laminated printed wrap cover panels and a linen spine.

Printed endpapers for hardcovers
All of our hardcover books include unprinted endpapers at no additional cost. We offer four unprinted endpaper colors: white, black, natural and gray.
You can also choose to have a printed design on your endpapers. Endpapers printed 4/0 have printing on one side, while endpapers printed 4/4 have printing on both sides. You will need to provide a separate PDF for the endpaper design. Printed endpapers increase the cost per book.
What is the minimum order quantity for hardcovers?
Hardcover We don't have a minimum quantity for hardcover book orders, but we do have a minimum order charge of $1000. Use the price calculator on our website to get accurate pricing for your book order.
