Inset Cover Image

What are the Bleed requirements on inset image file?

When creating your inset image file, we ask that you include a .125" bleed.

This ensures that no unwanted white space is left at the edges of your image in case the final trimming is slightly off.

For example, an inset image with a final size of 4" wide by 3" high should be 4.25" wide by 3.25" with the bleed area included.

Standard inset cover images sizes

We have a range of preset inset image sizes. Rectangular inset dies can be rotated to be vertical or horizontal. The inset images sizes are:

  • 2" x 2"
  • 2" x 3"
  • 3" x 3"
  • 3" x 4"
  • 3.5" x 5"
  • 3.5" x 5.5"
  • 4" x 4"
  • 4" x 5"
  • 4" x 6"
  • 6" x 6"
  • 6.5” x 8.5”

The price calculator on our website assumes that you will use one of the preset sizes for your image.

If you wish to use a different inset image size, we can produce a custom stamping die for an additional fee.

What and why is there an inset image setup fee?

The inset image setup fee is for the labor to mount a copper die in our machinery, and precisely align the die so that the image will be in the correct place on the cover.

The same amount of labor is needed whether the order is for 10 books or 500 books, hence the flat setup fee.

An inset image is an optional cover decoration available only for linen wrap and printed linen wrap hardcover books.

These are full color, laminated prints that are adhered into a shallow recess on your book cover.

The recessed area is 1/4" larger than the printed image overall, which provides a frame that is 1/8" wide around the image. Inset images can be rectangular (horizontal or vertical) or square. We have a number of preset inset image sizes available, see the list on our website.

If you want a custom size inset image, that is possible for an additional stamping die fee.

What type of paper can I use for inset images?

We print our inset images on a bright white self-adhesive photo paper.

We then apply a laminate to the inset image, to protect the print. Available laminate options are gloss, semi-matte, or soft touch matte.

Do you offer custom inset image sizes?

We have a range of preset inset image sizes.

The price calculator on our website assumes that you will use one of these preset sizes for your image.
